The Traveling Elixir Show
Make a date for The Traveling Elixir Fixer to visit!

Perfect for friendly gatherings at home

The Traveling Elixir Fixer invites you to enter the world of cocktail mixing! You'll mash, muddle, mix, blend, shake and stir your way through the classic pre-prohibition approach to cocktail mixing, using seasonal local ingredients. Angie will demonstrate the techniques that are used to create these tantalizing elixirs, and will share recipes for homemade syrups and mixers that will allow you to create beautifully crafted cocktails at home without spending a small fortune.  She will also share the history and folklore of the cocktails, and of the spirits that are used to create them. Angie will show you the correct way to mix drinks with the proper bar tools, as well as how to serve a signature drink for a crowd and how to stage a drink area. You will discuss basic bar equipment, new and inventive ideas for garnishing, and how to make your own fresh mixers. You will sample classic, seasonally-fresh pre-prohibition cocktails. Classes run for two hours, are all inclusive, and can include up to 12 students. Contact The Traveling Elixir Fixer for more information.

Role Reversals, Combat Corduroy, and ELIXIRS

Anyone who crosses my path has to know one thing about me: I love whiskey so much that I dedicate every Wednesday to a sampling of what many call, “sunlight held together by water.” One particular Wednesday, I was enjoying a fine crafted interpretation of a PURE MICHIGAN un-aged white whiskey, W. R. White Rye Whiskey from Journeyman Distillery in Three Oaks, MI, at my favorite little tucked away Irish gem, O’Duffy’s Pub in the Historic  Vine Street Neighborhood of Kalamazoo. While sipping on this delightful distilled spirit, a local Kalamazoo jam band began to play. Combat Corduroy, a classic indie jam band, says their interests include jamming, having a good time and chilling with great people. That particular Wednesday's performance was no exception.

The Traveling Elixir Fixer and Combat Corduroy
Combat Corduroy works its way into the ears and minds of the music culture. From the beginning of the band, through the growth, to the present, Combat Corduroy has been and will continue to play the best damn tunes this side of the Mississippi. The band consists of lead singer/guitarist Logan Castle, trained in blues and birthed in rock, bassist Brandon Jennings, funk with a sultry taste of classical cello, lead guitar Andrew Watkins, Metallica meets Phish, and on drums Jon Petro, the reincarnation of John Bonham. These four brothers have come together to make rock that makes your ears tingle.

I love a good role reversal and that particular Wednesday night's escapades at O'Duffy's Pub was a perfect trading places scenario. I quite often use the phrase, ".... got ELIXIRED." I use this statement when I have blanketed the area in liquid creations that had the masses feeling better than ever (including non-alcoholic elixirs), curing what ails ya, so to speak. I make people happy. These talented musicians ELIXIRED me with their performance, passion to their craft and their incredible souls that had nothing but love for all. Great food and drinks, fantastic friends (both old and new) and fabulous entertainment. Under normal circumstances, I would use a Michigan spirit (supporting all local: local venue, local talent and LOCAL SPIRITS). The band has requested Maker's Mark as their base spirit and we all know how I feel about that beautiful bourbon - break the RULES and design a beautiful liquid accompaniment using one of my favorite spirits. They deserve it. CHEERS!
